The Tie-In - Spring 04

Dear Climber:

Now I am not sure about you but here in the Mountain Link office, we are all getting a bit of the winter blues. Don't get me wrong, I have been getting out once in awhile making turns in fresh powder at Mount Bachelor. However, with the weather warming up I am looking forward to heading to Smith Rock State Park, one of the country's best rock climbing destinations and getting vertical. In this issue of "The Tie In" we would like to inform you on what has been happening and what is going on in the world of adventure. - Robert Link

Russia North Side!

Mike Lindaas - summit day on Dhaulagiri
This is a once in a lifetime chance to climb with Robert Link on the North side of Mount Elbrus. Typically, when people go to climb Elbrus, they climb the South side because of easy access and the cozy hut system. Therefore you get a whole heck of a lot of people climbing the standard route on Elbrus. Robert has decided to put the adventure back in adventure travel by offering an expedition-style climb on the North side. Technically, the terrain is the same on the North side as the South side. There is one difference, we may be the only team there! We may have to organize an additional expedition, our first one June 16 - 29 is filling up.

Guess Who is Going to Everest?:

Everest Summit, northside - Robert Link

Liz Pace and Joe Hughes will be joining JJ Justman and Lhawang Dhondup on an attempt to summit Mount Everest via the South Col. Making this expedition unique, Liz will hopefully become the first person from the country of Malta to summit Mount Everest. In addition, one of our climbing Sherpa Lhakpa Nuru will attempt to beat the speed record. Mountain Link will be providing the best on-line coverage of the climbing season on Mount Everest. Stay tuned at www.mountain-link.com.
