A Different Concept to Mountaineering Trips - Bring Your Family

 Papallacta Hot Springs

Last April at the request of one of our customers Mountain Link created a trip profile to suit a family of three In Ecuador. The country is rich in amazing places to visit, the Galapagos Islands with their uniue flora and fauna as well as some of the highest volcanoes in the world. We visited historical haciendas near 12,000 feet to enjoy hiking, horse back riding, and fishing while acclimatizing for the climbs. One of the haciendas we visited was having it's annual round up of wild horses. Once they round them up into a large corral they trim their hooves with machetes and vaccinate them for disease.  In order to trim the hooves they need to get these wild ponies on the ground. This is where the real rodeo begins. It's basically  a rope and tackle affair. I have a lot of respect for bull-riders but watching these gauchos work  gave new meaning to the phrase "cowboy up".

The great thing about Ecuador is that the actual climbs are only one or two nights in huts to stage for the summit climb. From an early morning summit you can be back down with your family enjoying a dinnner and shower in one of the local haciendas. While we were on the mountain the rest of the group enjoyed  their own adventure with a private car and personal guide. As far as the fun-meter rating went they are planning another visit to Ecuador with us in the fall.

Mount Bachelor - Guided Mountaineering Schools

Mt Bachelor.jpg

Mountain Link ran its first official Denali Prep trip on Mount Bachelor last month. The weather was a real mixed bag tricks which added to one of the most important aspects of a Denali expedition, survival.  We are looking forward to creating more options for climbers and non-climbers alike to enjoy all the activities that our home town has to offer. Our summer programs begin June 6.
