Mike started climbing with his family when he was very young. He spent his summers in the Washington Cascades learning mountaineering from his father. It was here that his love of the outdoors and his pursuit of mountaintops first began.

Mike is now a full-time guide on both domestic and international peaks. He has led or participated on climbs on Aconcagua, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, Illiniza, Huayna Potosi, Illimani, Huascaran, Orizaba, Ixta, Denali, Hunter, Kilimanjaro, Mount Elbrus and the Italian Dolomites. In addition, Mike was an assistant guide for the 2002 Mountain Link Dhaulagiri Expedition. In 2003, he and Adam Knoff climbed Denali's Cassin Ridge alpine style in 45 hours.

He has been working for Rainier Mountaineering Inc. since 1994 and is a Senior Guide who leads trips on Mount Rainier and Denali (Mount McKinley). In the summers he also can be found working with youth in the Washington Cascades with the Northwest Mountain School.

When he isn't guiding, he can be found rock climbing, trail running or backcountry skiing. Mike is a Wilderness First Responder and has Avalanche 2 certification.
